Writer's picture: Kastas PellKastas Pell

To open the roads, the old ones must be closed. So is the balance.

What Are Konjure Candles?

The Spirit behind the herbs and palos used to dress these candle, feeds the architype of Spirit that the candle is fixed too. Konjure Candles are Offerings. Food to the spirit. A Feeding. A reason to commune with the one who oversees your Spiritual Work, Your Intent, Your Desired Manifestation, Your Request.

Remember, the Konjure Candles are offerings towards the Spirits you're invoking. That being said, preparing your candle for them needs to be aligned with the relationship your are stepping into. To ask of them, is to begin a relationship with them. The best way to do that is to offer something designed for them. That's where the Konjure Candle comes in.

There isn't only ONE way to use these candles, the details I give you below are a general way to begin your work or to build off of with your own set up. As long as it comes from the heart, you cant go wrong.

How To Use The Konjure Candle

  1. Take a moment to talk to the Governing Spirit overlooking your work. If you don't know where to begin, then start with your Ancestors. Everyone has them and they are a necessary component in Spiritual Work.

Consecrate your space, your mind, and your reasoning for being there. Gather your thoughts , and create space and honesty for your work to ebb and flow in its desired rhythm. Honesty is the best policy, the more dishonesty you have about your work or intentions, the more bullshit will be in the way. We don't want that...so be clear and honest, even if it doesn't sound or look pretty.

( This method can all be done through meditation outload by talking to the spirits, or through quiet meditation)

  2. Using a candle or flame safe surface, place your Konjure Candle on top of it. This step allows for the opportunity to dress your candle with a meaningful bodily fluid. This isn't necessary for everyone, but if you needed and opportunity to become closer with the Spirit, this offers a chance for you to do so. Some use blood, saliva, or genital juices. Using liquids of this sort invokes contract and assists with sealing it. Not necessary for all work, just some.

  3. Once you have platted the offering, light it. The Konjure Candles are dressed candles, so be sure to watch the candle and keep it away from flammable objects. Not just for basic flame safety, but Konjure candles, and spiritually effected. Its always best to keep watch and be mindful of your flame.

Allow the candle to burn down. Its a meal, an offering. Allow them to eat, but if you must put it out, remember to light the remaining the next day. Feed them the whole portion, not a half portion.

  2. Dressing your candle is a beautiful aspect to spell work. It allows your to add your own flavor to your work. I like to look at it as seasoning the food for the offering. The herbs are obviously included, but don't feel inclined to only use them. If you have your own substances to add to it, feel free. Just be in alignment with your intention. The Konjure candle is already dressed and fixed but the Skull candle is a perfect place to start. Carve your sigils, your names, intent, etc and oil it up and dress it in herbs.

Chanting, Singing, etc, is a beautiful addition. An African professor once said, singing is like praying twice. So invoke a rhythm of words over your work.

  3. Using a candle holder or flame safe surface, place your Konjure Candle and/or Skull on top of it. This step allows for the opportunity to dress your candle with a meaningful bodily fluid. In Hoodoo, the skull symbolizes wisdom, transformation, and the ancestral connection, acting as a bridge between the living and the spirit world. The colors red and black carry potent dualities: red signifies life, passion, and power, while black embodies protection, banishment, and the mysteries of the unseen. Together, they represent the balance between opening paths and closing them. The crossroads—a sacred meeting point—signify opportunities, decisions, and the space where the physical meets the spiritual. As the saying goes, "To open the roads, the old ones must be closed," reminding us that balance is not just essential but the very essence of Hoodoo practice.
